Favourite Documentary Film

Synopsis
Documentary look at health care in the United States as provided by profit-oriented health maintenance organizations (HMOs) compared to free, universal care in Canada, the U.K., and France. Moore contrasts U.S. media reports on Canadian care with the experiences of Canadians in hospitals and clinics there. He interviews patients and doctors in the U.K. about cost, quality, and salaries. He examines why Nixon promoted HMOs in 1971, and why the Clintons’ reform effort failed in the 1990s. He talks to U.S. ex-pats in Paris about French services, and he takes three 9/11 clean-up volunteers, who developed respiratory problems, to Cuba for care. He asks of Americans, “Who are we?”

Why this is my favourite documentary film?
This is a very interesting look at the politics of why the USA does not have a social medical insurance program and how it works elsewhere around the globe.

So, while Marlin ventures off to try to retrieve Nemo, Marlin meets a fish named Dory, a blue tang suffering from short-term memory loss. The companions travel a great distance, encountering various dangerous sea creatures such as sharks, anglerfish and jellyfish, in order to rescue Nemo from the dentist’s office, which is situated by Sydney Harbor. Favourite Thriller/Mystery Film

Synopsis
Two hundred and fifty years in the future, life as we know it is threatened by the arrival of Evil. Only the fifth element can stop the Evil from extinguishing life, as it tries to do every five thousand years. She is helped by ex-soldier, current-cab-driver, Korben Dallas, who is, in turn, helped by Prince/Arsenio clone, Ruby Rhod. Unfortunately, Evil is being assisted by Mr. Zorg, who seeks to profit from the chaos that Evil will bring, and his alien mercenaries.

Why this is my favourite Thriller/Mystery film?
The Fifth Element is a thrilling adventure from beginning to end. It does not bogged down into an investigation type mystery film. The solution to the mystery of what is the fifth element is clever indeed and worth the watch alone.

When a alien life-form attach’s itself to the face of a crew member, the rest of the team act fast to try and separate the two organisms. Unbeknownst to everyone, this is the start of the terror which would affect every member of the seven person crew.

Why this is my favourite Horror film?
Alien still creeps me out. You know it’s coming but the suspense of when is a killer concept, literally. Alien was all about the tone and is backed up with great acting and direction. It is, and always will be, a masterpiece.

Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy film

Synopsis
Set against the coming of Christianity, this is the story of the last hero: in 507, a monstrous troll wrecks havoc in the mead hall of the Danish king, Hrothgar. He offers rewards for the death of Grendel, so Beowulf, a great and boastful Geat warrior, arrives with his thanes. Beowulf sets aside his armor and awaits the monster; a fierce battle ensues that leads to Beowolf’s entering the watery lair of Grendel’s mother, where a devil’s bargain awaits. Beowulf returns to Herot, the castle, and becomes king. Jump ahead many years, and the sins of the father are visited upon Beowulf and his kingdom. The hero must face his weakness and be heroic once again. Is the age of demons over?

Why this is my favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy film?
On this one I have leant to the Fantasy side of things. I am not a fan of Harry Potter and have not seen (nor desire to see) a Lord of the Rings film *shock horror*, so I have to go with Beowulf. Beowulf is a tale that is arguably the story of the first super-hero, a story that deserves respect if nothing else.
