Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy film

Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy film

Synopsis
Set against the coming of Christianity, this is the story of the last hero: in 507, a monstrous troll wrecks havoc in the mead hall of the Danish king, Hrothgar. He offers rewards for the death of Grendel, so Beowulf, a great and boastful Geat warrior, arrives with his thanes. Beowulf sets aside his armor and awaits the monster; a fierce battle ensues that leads to Beowolf’s entering the watery lair of Grendel’s mother, where a devil’s bargain awaits. Beowulf returns to Herot, the castle, and becomes king. Jump ahead many years, and the sins of the father are visited upon Beowulf and his kingdom. The hero must face his weakness and be heroic once again. Is the age of demons over?

Why this is my favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy film?
On this one I have leant to the Fantasy side of things. I am not a fan of Harry Potter and have not seen (nor desire to see) a Lord of the Rings film *shock horror*, so I have to go with Beowulf. Beowulf is a tale that is arguably the story of the first super-hero, a story that deserves respect if nothing else.

Favourite romantic movie

Favourite romantic movie

Synopsis
An American girl on vacation in Italy finds an unanswered “letter to Juliet” — one of thousands of missives left at the fictional lover’s Verona courtyard, which are typically answered by a the “secretaries of Juliet” — and she goes on a quest to find the lovers referenced in the letter.

Why this is my favourite romantic film?
Whilst I could have gone with a Romantic Comedy or an Action film with a tenuous link to romance I had to choose this film. It is from beginning to end about a romantic notion and of course the girl ends up with the right guy, not the self centred prat she begins with.

Favourite action film

Favourite action film

Synopsis
New York City Detective John McClane has just arrived in Los Angeles to spend Christmas with his wife. Unfortunatly, it is not going to be a Merry Christmas for everyone. A group of terrorists, led by Hans Gruber is holding everyone in the Nakatomi Plaza building hostage. With no way of anyone getting in or out, it’s up to McClane to stop them all. All 12!

Why this is my favourite action film?
The reason this is my favourite is it ticks all the action boxes and stars my favourite actor in Bruce Willis. Good triumphs over evil and he gets the girl whilst keeping composure under a ridiculous amount of stress.

Favourite comedy

Synopsis
It is the 21st birthday of Prince Akeem of Zamunda and he is to marry a woman he never saw before. Now the prince breaks with tradition and travels to America to look for the love of his life.

Why this is my favourite comedy film?
Eddie Murphy at his finest. Eddie has gone from funny to ridiculously funny to ridiculous and now back to funny over the years. Eddie in his hey day gave us both The Golden Child and Coming To America. Both are of equal class, but for my Coming To America is slightly funnier.

Technology Failures Suck! – iPad Alarm Failure

General | Posted by Dean
May 02 2011

My day has started much later than expected due my alarm not going off. I feel like a little kid explaining to teacher why I was late. The reason is that my iPads’ Clock Pro HD has failed it’s duty of alarm clock for reasons undetermined. I know I set it up last night, and it is not easily disabled unless I have managed to open the cover and hit the “Off” button sub-consciously on 2 separate occasions.

The first I knew the alarm had failed was when I semi-woke at 05:30 just to check the time. 05:30 is 2 hours after my alarm should have sounded for my initial wake up and a further 75 minutes after the alarm that says get to the train station pal. Needless to say that I decided that it would be prudent to work from home and rolled over back to sleep.

Tonight I will be going back to multiple alarms with the Nokia N97 phone added to the 3:30 am chorus to get my fat arse out of the sack on time!

I then ran into drama with the work laptop wanting to do Windows Updates. 8 updates and 2 reboots later I may finally get my day, and week, out of neutral.
