Synopsis
Part IV in a George Lucas epic, Star Wars: A New Hope opens with a rebel ship being boarded by the tyrannical Darth Vader. The plot then follows the life of a simple farmboy, Luke Skywalker, as he and his newly met allies (Han Solo, Chewbacca, Ben Kenobi, C-3PO, R2-D2) attempt to rescue a rebel leader, Princess Leia, from the clutches of the Empire. The conclusion is culminated as the Rebels, including Skywalker make an attack on the Empires most powerful and ominous weapon, the Death Star.

My favourite quotes from this movie?

  • “Let the Wookiee Win!” – C3P0

  • “We’re doomed”- C3P0

  • “Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?” – Princess Leia

  • “As you wish” – Darth Vader

  • “We seem to be made to suffer. It’s our lot in life.”- C3P0

A film that reminds me of my past

A film that reminds me of my past

Synopsis
Sam Wheat, a banker, and Molly Jensen, a talented potter, are a loving couple, who move into a New York City apartment. At work, Sam discovers discrepancies in some bank accounts, and confides in his friend and colleague, Carl Bruner. Carl offers to investigate, but Sam decides to investigate himself. Soon afterward, Sam and Molly are attacked by armed thug Willy Lopez and Sam is killed. Sam’s ghost arises from the dead body next to the distraught Molly, and he gradually realizes that he is a ghost whose presence cannot be seen, even by Molly. By sitting unseen next to Carl, he learns that the attack on him was planned by Carl.

A Film That Reminds You of Your Past
Ghost reminds me of a family event that was rare. That event was going to the cinema as a family. I seem to recall going to Carousel (WA) to the all new Hoyts complex at the time. The four of us enjoyed the movie a great deal, I do suspect the fact we did it as a family was a large part of the enjoyment.

A film that reminds me of somewhere

Synopsis
Luke Skywalker, Lando Calrissian, Princess Leia, R2-D2 and C3P0 infiltrate Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine intent on the rescue of loveable rogue Han Solo. After a successful rescue the group set about the task of destroying a newly constructed Death Star that is not yet operational … or so they thought. The usual Star Wars shenanigans occur with fights galore and Luke finally confronts his father to bring him back to the Light Side of the Force.

Where Does This Film Remind Of?
The Hilton WA drive-in theatre is where this film reminds me of. I think we were in a Holden Belmont wagon watching this when I was 8. The drive-in is sadly long since demolished, but good memories.
Whilst I personally see this as the weakest film of the original trilogy it is a fitting end.

Synopsis
During the Great Depression, in the year 1933, Annie lives in the Hudson Street Orphanage in New York City. Though the others living in the orphanage know for a fact that they are orphans, Annie believes that her parents simply left her there. In truth, they died in a fire years before. The orphanage is run by Miss Hannigan a drunk, cruel, hopelessly romantic tyrant whom all the girls fear. The main orphans are Annie , Molly, Pepper, Tessie, Kate, Duffy, and July. There are also a few other insignificant orphans. One morning, Hannigan orders the girls to clean up the place.

Who Does This Remind Me Of?
My now deceased Nanna Smedley. We went and saw this a number of times in 1982/1983 over a number of school holidays. Would I watch it now? Perhaps, in fact I priced it a $9 at the local K-Mart on Friday evening.

A film that makes me feel down

A film that makes me feel down

Synopsis
Four Atlanta businessmen – Lewis (Reynolds), Ed (Voight), Bobby (Beatty), and Drew (Cox) – decide to canoe down the fictional Cahulawassee River in the remote Georgia wilderness, expecting to have fun and see the glory of nature before the river valley is flooded by the construction of a dam. Lewis, an experienced outdoorsman, is the de facto leader. Ed is also a veteran of several trips but lacks Lewis’ machismo. Bobby and Drew are novices. All four are friends, but Ed seems to have a common connection with all.

From the start, it is clear the four are aliens in this unknown location. The locals are crude and unimpressed with the presence of outsiders, and the film implies that some of them are inbred. While attempting to secure drivers for their vehicles (to be delivered to the takeout point), Drew briefly connects with a local banjo-playing boy by joining him in an impromptu bluegrass jam, Dueling Banjos. But when the song ends, the boy turns away without saying anything, refusing the impressed Drew’s handshake. The four “city boys”, as they are called by one of the locals, exhibit a slightly condescending attitude toward the locals; Bobby, in particular, is patronizing.

The trip descends further as the adventure continues.

Why I Feel Down Watching This?
I believe the movie is great and worth a watch, however the subject matter is quite disturbing.
