This week has been a most irritating week. Basically been confined to bed and dosed up on Panadeine Forte with my back injury. There has been a number of lows and no highs. I have managed to serve work via phone, but basically been confined to my bed, hot water bottle, and electric blanket. Also, in the bedroom we have pay TV access, so limited to the garbage that free-to-air TV broadcasts.
At the beginning of the week every move was painful. Thankfully I am now finding that I am reasonably mobile and able to sit up for short periods. I am now finding getting up the hardest part of my day. Whenever I get up the weakness in the back is felt and a sharp pain accompanies it. Getting out of bed takes 2 to 3 minutes each time. Fortunately I have not been caught short, but not being able to perform a basic human function is frustrating.
The low was definitely yesterday morning when a humble office chair had me stranded. After feeling OK I decided to play a few minutes of the Call of Duty (World at War). During the game I felt no pain for quite some time, once I began feeling pain I thought better get back to the warmth of bed. However, I was unable to shift my body weight forward enough to level the chair so that I could get out. Unfortunately I could not grab anything around with which to pull me forward. The chair is wheeled, however had sunken in the carpet under my body weight. I was looking at the prospect at deliberately falling out of the chair just to escape. Just as I was thinking about that my Dad returned from a walk and was able to assist.
I though am not the only one suffering back pain within my circle of friends. My best mate from Perth, Jamie Hellmrich is also laid up with back injury. The poor bugger had a car accident in the big smoke and has been struggling for a fortnight. Perhaps the two of us are just getting fragile in our old age.
I am about to enter a phase where I have no Panadeine Forte left. Neurofen Plus is at the ready to take over as best it can. I am feeling confident that I will be back to relative normality next week, but only time will tell. I can not say when I will be back to full health and able to return to the bowling, the site of the injury.
I must say thankyou to my family, friends and colleagues for being understanding and assisting me through this tough week.
