BlackJack Zucchini Update
Well I thought it is time to give you all an update on how the latest BlackJack Zucchini’s are progressing. As many of you would recall this plant is my nemesis and I at one stage swore not to grow any more. Needless to say I buckled and bought some hardy looking seedlings on 20th January and decided upon Another Attempt.
These seedlings remained in their seedling tray during the move as I did not want to torture them with a replanting before they journeyed to Wollongong. They were though replanted into good sized containers upon arrival in 5 containers. One container has 3 plants, the other 3 received individual pots. I then put them in two locations within the garden. Both locations share a similar sunny disposition.
All but one of the plants are thriving in Wollongong. They are getting sufficient water thanks to the mild and wet summer we are having. I have though lost 1 seedling, that though looks to have been the work of a bird with it going from healthy to vanished in the space of 24 hours.
So although still early I am relatively confident that the hex of the BlackJack Zucchini may be broken.

This is the first time I have ever heard someone calling a plant his ‘nemesis’ haha. Good stuff.

Here in Canada, it is common practice to gift wrap large zucchinis and leave them in alley ways or on people’s porches. One memorable year, one was left on my porch that was 2 1/2 feet long, dressed in a baby bonnet and wrapped in a baby blanket. Pinned to it was a note that said, “Please take care of me, my Mummy doesn’t want me any more.” I went that night to a girlfriend’s and dropped it off at her house. The next night we both dropped it off at an Irish girlfriend’s house. This backfired, as they do not have this tradition in Ireland and she thought it was from some weird stalker. We felt terrible, and only do this to Canadians now!!

I started getting worried where Sharon J’s comment was leading when she said it was 2.5 feet long & she took it over to her girlfriends house….. Was wondering how lonely her friend was! Hehehe. *cleans mind out of the gutter*
Actually I started wondering if you left it in alleyways if it was for the homeless?
Sounds like one of those “Travelling Gnome” type stunts. Do you take photos of it as well???

I am a fellow Canadian Sharon and have never heard of this “zucchini drop” as being common practice. However, I must confess my mother brings me at least 2 or 3 monster sized zucchini every season, but she never dresses them.
Funny concept though, I may give it a try this year.
