300: IMAX – you’ve won sneak preview tickets!
I have been looking forward to seeing the new gladiatorial gorefest 300, and now I have been lucky enough to win sneak preview tickets at the largest cinema screen in NSW. So on Tuesday evening socko and I will be watching a gorefest.
For those that do not know anything about 300 it is the adaptaption of Frank Millers graphic novel. The story revolves around the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. The battle was between King Leonidas and 300 Spartans against the massive Persian invasion force led by Xerxes. Thermopylae was a gateway between Persia and Greece, and the Spartans were charged with defending the land for the Greek democracy. They Spartan Hoplites knew that the battle was not able to be won, however it was critical to delay the overwhelming Persian forces as long as possible to allow other Greek forces to escape to safety. The fleeing Greeks were sent from Thermopylae by King Leonidas in previous days.

Well Civick thats where you encourage her to have a girly night (ie. tupperware party) and bugger off with some mates to the local cinema. Followed by a healthy drinking session and then go home to the misses.
BTW – I will be reviewing the movie here either later tonight or tomorrow so you will know how awesome it is.

Respecting the wishes of my audience I will say the following:
a) This movie far exceeded my expectations and is a definate must see. It is already on my Christmas wish list as a DVD, hell I even want the graphic novel its based upon now.
b) Graphically stunning and theatrically brilliant. That said the graphics and effects complement the story, they do not overtake it.
c) This is truly an epic story with a beginning, middle and end. It is not like a Tarantino film where its all gore and a circular thin plot, this is a balanced representation.
d) It is not a movie for the kiddies, leave them at home. The adult themes, violence, and sex will overload the little ones, and who wants to try an explain every scene.
Finally, in closing, I recommend that you fork out the extra dollars and see it at IMAX it is truly a magnificent and graphically enthralling experience.

As a FEMALE who DOESN’T wanna spend her “Girly” nights having FKN TUPPERWARE PARTIES & does enjoy all types of movies, I have to leave my Two Cents worth.. IF it counts!
I had no idea what 300 was based on until I watched the trailer on SK’s mac. Having never been to IMAX before I was also excited about having a night out in Darling Harbour (which is one of my favourite places in our city). The free double pass was a wonderful surprise & couldn’t have come at a better time for us.
The IMAX experience was fantastic! I was overwhelmed immediately by the sheer size of the screen & LOVED the huge comfy seats. I wouldn’t like to see any movie on this size screen that had fast paced action however this movie was perfect.
Back to the movie. I enjoyed every part of this movie. The fact that there was a true story line that this was based on I also left a more learned person.
What I enjoyed the most was the RESPECT these people once upon a time in history possessed. If only this world still portrayed that kind of loyalty. I’m sure the Human Race would benefit greatly.
Anyways, Thoroughly enjoyable movie. I give this 9 sox out of 10!

Was a good movie, But I think it was over-rated. But special effects were definitely worth a watch at IMAX.
