Sony Ericsson PC Suite and Microsoft Windows Vista

Users of Sony Ericsson PC Suite beware that there is no Microsoft Windows Vista version, at least not yet. The installer comes up and tells you that Windows 2000 or Windows XP is required and exits. I have asked Sony Ericsson if it will be made compatible.

Well below is the response from Sony Ericsson whcih I mud=st say was promp.

Currently we do not support this operating system. Please periodically check our website for new downloads as we may do in the future.

We have not been able to develop software for this platform before release as it was a Beta release and therefore subject to change.

I find the excuse of calling Release Candidates of Microsoft Windows Vista as untrustworthy to develop against a bit odd given that most major software manufacturers have been doing it successfully. It is a bit of a cop out really.
I guess I will have to rely on the Macintosh to Sony Ericcson K600i Bluetooth connection using iSynch to keep my calendar and contacts up to date.

I have sent the below follow up to Sony Ericcson.

When will a Windows Vista compatible PC Suite be released? Vista is now months old and I would have expected a new version to have been a priority. I am willing to be a beta tester if required.

Will keep you posted on the response.

Sony Ericcson have responded with the same response as above. Clearly they have an e-mail template and it is a pitiful excuse, not a reason for the lack of Microsoft Vista support. I have responded with:

Thanks for the template mail. I received this exact response the week of Vistas release. At that time it was acceptable, now it is tardy. Surely there is a time line, within weeks or months), for when the application will support this business application within Windows Vista.

The second statement is a clear cop out as the core Vista code has not changed sigificantly during the release candidate stages of the product life cycle, which were available for many months before release. Surely a company the size of Sony Ericsson get those versions on which to develop software critical to the business use of the modern day mobile.

Again, probably a hiding to nothing, but I have to ask.

Finally I now know when to expect Sony Ericsson to catch up to Microsoft long awaited, and long developed, operating system.

As per this link- http://www.sonyericsson.com/vista/- the update will be available in September. Not sure why Sony Ericsson call center said it would be in June.

Anyway one can always hack the installer for Vista compatibility here

You can try intalling the suite to vista in compatible mode. I have installed many windows XP compatible software into vista in the compatiblity mode. All of them worked flawlessly (example: synchromagic backup soft).
